Agility as a movement started with software developers uncovering better ways of doing what they do. Today that movement is driving even business leaders to rethink how they lead their organizations. What does it mean to "be" agile? How can agility be applied to the challenge of leading organizations? Where do successful agile leaders start?
Three stories, three secrets and three tips to apply agility for more impact in your life and work.
Seeing the world with new eyes changes the world. Systems coaching based upon Systems Thinking is a very powerful toolkit for any change agent. Revealing the hidden elephants in the organisation is to uncover the real reasons why change is so hard and how to make it much easier. In this talk, Simon Powers will uncover the basics of Systems, Systems Thinking and Coaching, so that you can grow your capabilities as a successful leader and coach.
Anti-Patterns are like patterns, only more informative. With anti-patterns, you will first see what patterns recur in “bad” retrospectives and then you will see how to avoid, or remedy, the situation. Based on her experience with facilitating retrospectives, join Aino for an entertaining and informative presentation on the anti-patterns she has seen and how to overcome the problems. This talk will be interesting for everyone facilitating meetings in general, and retrospectives in particular. Her latest book “Retrospective Anti-Patterns” will give you more info that she is able to convey in this talk.
Agile doesn't just need a reboot, it needs a rethink. The word isn't a noun, a management fad, a manifesto or event a framework. One may be agile and never sprint, conduct a standup, meeting or be part of a release train. The dread that many experience from commercial agile approaches is unfortunate and unneccessary.
Agile is an adjective: an agile surgeon, dancer, athlete, team etc. Being agile is joyful and is applicable to all living beings. So how do we tap into that joy?
In this new talk, based on his forthcoming book, Joy of Agility, you will learn the definition of agile, six essential mantras for becoming agile, and several of his favorite stories that illustrate agility. You will leave this talk with a clear understanding of what it means to agile and how to move towards the joy that flows from genuine agility.
"Without passion, nobody cares."
"Without responsibility, nothing gets done."
Sound familiar? Forcing smart people to do agile practices without asking is not the best way to "transform" a company or engage the people. Forcing 'agile' is actually quite DUMB.
A better approach might be to demonstrate respect for people, by including the folks in the decision to change. Imagine including people in the decision.
Executives that have seen forced-march 'agile transformation' fail in a big way will get the most out of this session.
We'll run down what it takes to engage people, why engaging people is essential, how everyone needs a sense of control, and belonging, and how to explain all of this stuff to executive decision-makers in 3 minutes. Just like that.
We'll also discuss why the issue of imposing change on people is by far the largest "elephant in the room" of the worldwide Agile industry. And how otherwise outspoken "thought leader" incumbents who have absolutely nothing to say about this are in fact perpetuating the problem.
Everyone exists with a toolkit of PDF checklists from my classes, and also some other resources. When we discuss tools, we'll be focusing on the use of Open Space Technology to bring some humanity and indeed, some fun....to the difficult task of organizational change.
Those who are wondering when things are going to change will get the most from this session.
Executives want business agility – the ability to deliver value predictably to their customers faster, with high quality, and sustainably. But they are not interested in Lean-Agile, just perhaps that they need to use it. This talk will show you how to introduce value streams to executives as a way to explain what an organization has to do. It will show how attending to value streams can increase innovation, speed time of delivery, lower risk, and reduce costs. All the while helping align the organization.
Here is an article that illustrates what I’ll talk about – only I’ll have a lot more detail.
Today's organizations are choking on red tape and top-down decision-making. Managers spend too much of their time granting permission, and when employees closest to the work sense an urgent need for change, they're left stranded. It’s little wonder that more than 85% of employees worldwide report feeling disengaged from their work. It’s becoming increasingly obvious that) the way we work isn’t working
Holacracy practice is an agile alternative to the conventional management structure. It provides a framework for self-management that distributes decision-making, scales easily, and fundamentally empowers employees by allowing them to work with alignment and autonomy.
In this talk, Holacracy co-founder Brian Robertson will outline five concrete steps organizations can take to implement self-management using Holacracy. Whether or not you decide that self-management is right for your company, you’ll learn how to make your meetings more efficient, create a system that empowers your team, and increase organizational clarity.
Communities are springing up everywhere - driving growth & innovation in Web3 and crypto, just as they did for Web2. But building and leveraging a successful community is no easy feat for any product or game. In this illuminating presentation, you’ll discover how the teams behind breakout hits like Rock Band, The Sims, Netflix, and Slack used social game design to shape their product decisions. You’ll also learn 3 ways to harness the power of community-first design into your own work.
